Google plans to reorganise its ad sales unit, including possible layoffs, as it relies more on machine learning for ad buying. Sean Downey, who oversees ad sales to big customers in the Americas, notified employees of the department-wide restructuring. In January, Google announced plans to cut 12,000 jobs globally. The company also merged the advertising system of its mapping app Waze with Google Ads technology, resulting in layoffs. Last year, Google merged the Waze and Google Maps teams for increased collaboration.
