Apollo and other third-party Reddit apps have shut down here's why

Several third-party Reddit apps, including popular ones like Apollo and Rif is fun for Reddit, have been forced to shut down due to new API rules and increased pricing. Developers criticized Reddit for not understanding their users and claimed that the new rules would require significant costs that couldn't be covered by subscriptions. BaconReader and Sync for Reddit have also been discontinued. However, Relay for Reddit and Now for Reddit are transitioning to subscription models to cover API access expenses. Reddit's decision to charge for API access was aimed at compensating data used for generative AI models.
