Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is planning to introduce a separate account deletion feature for its micro-blogging platform Threads. Previously, users could only delete their Threads account by also deleting their Instagram account, which received criticism. Meta's chief privacy officer for product, Michel Protti, stated that the company faced technical challenges in separating the two accounts. Threads reached 100 million sign-ups after its launch in July but has seen a decline in popularity. Meta aims to integrate Threads with the fediverse and add features such as better recommendations and messaging methods.
