Apple has been secretly placing microscopic codes on its smartphones since 2020, according to a report. These QR codes, which are printed on the iPhone screen and on internal components, help the company track production costs and reduce defects. The codes are described as being "the size of a grain of sand" and can only be seen with special equipment. Apple's suppliers have been able to reduce the number of discarded glass cover units from 3 in 10 to 1 in 10, saving the company "hundreds of millions of dollars" annually.
