New EU rules, known as the Digital Markets Act (DMA), will impact Big Tech companies like Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and ByteDance. These companies will have to make their messaging apps compatible with rivals and allow users to choose pre-installed apps. The DMA also requires explicit consent for user tracking and allows third-party app stores on iOS and Android devices. Default apps will no longer be forced on users, and preferential rankings for services will be banned. The EU is also considering investigating Apple's iMessage for inclusion in the DMA.
