The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed universities not to print students' Aadhaar numbers on degrees and provisional certificates. The directive comes after reports that some state governments were considering printing full Aadhaar numbers on these documents for verification purposes. The UGC stated that no entity in possession of Aadhaar numbers should make them public unless they have been redacted or blacked out. This guideline is a reversal of a previous order from 2017, which had asked universities to include Aadhaar numbers and security features on certificates.
